Still Cant Root This

I have been trying to root my Optimus S for 2 days now... i have version LS670ZVD with 2.2.2, have read a bunch of different directions, and still nothing. I downloaded Android SDK, the OptimusRootVD, have run SDK manager where it turns on an emulated version of my phone, have run CMD prompt, as soon as it tells me to do something with cmd prompt it does nothing, or locks up my computer.

when it gets to the point where it says 'push adb' - even though the emulated phone is on the screen, it says none of the files/folders exist.

i have tried SuperOneClick, Z4root, Your Guide up there, nothing.

I am new to the rooting thing, so if you could, dumb down the directions.

Hi and welcome! Did you update over the air or using the LG Updater tool? If you updated OTA then you will need to follow the revert instructions before rooting because the OTA updates close rooting. Also, you may have already done this, but you also have to make sure you install the phone drivers onto your computer. Good luck!

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Slow down there before you brick your phone. We're all about helping people here so that's what's going to happen. You just need to slow down and take a deep breath.

The "emulated phone" has nothing to do with your Optimus S. It is simply a tool for Android application developers to test their applications on.

SuperOneClick, Z4root, or any other one-click root exploit will not work with version LS670ZVD or ZVC of the software because LG/Sprint waved their magic wands and made it so. Actually they patched the vulnerability but same difference

When you tried to follow the directions in the LS670ZVD rooting guide, did you read the part about reverting to ZV9? The only version of the Optimus S software that is rootable (using an exploit) is ZV9. We accomplished rooting ZVC and ZVD by following a very precise set of instructions so please make sure to follow all directions as stated. As always, please make sure to ask for clarification before you attempt something you don't fully understand.

I was on VD, the only thing you need the SDK platform for is the directory. I installed mine in

C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools (that was the final dir i needed to get into adb, but even after that, installing the drivers was a pain in the arse, so go to the LG update tool and Change your country to SINGAPORE and download the P500 drivers)

after that, when you do the adb device check (adb devices command), it should be listed under devices, and then ready to "downgrade" to v9 and then ready to root with z4... just my experience from a couple of days ago (well, after loading a custom recovery and whatnot)

How do i go about reverting it back to ZV9? Like where do I get that and install that?

Oh I DO change it to Singapore? I saw something about that, but figured it was talking about the people actually living in Singapore.

You don't NEED to change it to Singapore (I have never had to), but your mileage may vary. The thread about reverting is on the front page in the Rooting, Roms and Hacks subforum. A little use of the forum's Search function will help you greatly, but I will post the link here anyway.

changing it to singapore was mine (and a LOT of other users) only option to install. What OS are you running on computer?

Zilla you actually have a lot of reading to do cause IF you have the newer display reverting may be more difficult. There are several threads you need to read Especially http://forum.androidcentral.com/lg-...ing-ota-ls670vc-vd-using-kp500-diag-mode.html

WARNING #2: If you recently received a LS670 from Sprint which came with VC/VD from the factory, then there is a possibility you have a newer hardware revision with different LCD hardware. Since only VC/VD have the drivers for this new LCD hardware, if you revert to V9, your display will be blank. The phone is still functional (as in it boots into android and you can still operate the phone, just with no visual feedback). Don't worry, worse case, just use KP500 to flash back to VC/VD and you'll be back to normal. However if you've come this far, you might as well get root by performing the critical function of manually installing a custom recovery (or the stock V9 recovery) even without the display being functional, after which you can upgrade to a VC/VD-based ROM and get your display back. You can also install Android Screencast to view your screen on your PC. See this post for more details (will be updated as more information becomes available).

You are having problems because you are trying to skip steps. Read and "dont be lazy" because you WILL brick your phone if you dont know what your doing. I was reading how to do it for 2 months just so I was sure of my self to do the job right.

Your fist step is to set up your adb with the sdk.

Ok this has been solved... Long and rigorous, but finally after 7 hours, thanks to Tirith and his 64+ hours of no sleep.
