stock 2.2 Evo users. Thoughts on the new update?

So all the stock users out there. What are your thoughts of the new HTC update?

I know I had 330mb before the update. Now I have 320mb. So there had to be some decent improvements.

I really notice the screen actions are much more fluid. I really didn't think the cap would make that much of a difference.
I also think the keyboard is more fluid now! Or at least to me it seems that way.

So what are your opinions?

Coming from the iPhone 4, I was a bit let down w/ the screen lag on the Evo. I must say though, the update has absolutely fixed the issue. I love it now.

I was literally about to root my evo to remove the fps cap but didn't because I was still reading up about it. Now I'm glad I didn't, since I don't need to worry about roms and stuff.

The FPS cap causing screen lag/shutter when scrolling was the single most embarrassing this when showing people my EVO since people know it's one of the latest and greatest phone with one of the fastest processors. Now it's all good!! It's like having a completely different phone.

I don't get it. I just did the update this morning (successfully), and the scrolling doesn't seem much better than before the update. Web browser scrolling seems the same, and scrolling through the list of apps in the launcher still hiccups a bit. In fact, if someone snuck into my house in the middle of the night and updated my Evo for me, I would never know.

Are you all exaggerating the FPS improvement a bit, or am I missing something??

Hmm, try rebooting? Update did magic to my phone, it flies.

Yeah, I don't get it. For all the gushing around here about how the FPS fix makes such an improvement, I was really expecting a dramatic difference. In a word, no. After playing some more, I CAN tell a minor improvement in scrolling but boy it's pretty minimal. Again, I'm not sure I would even notice it if I wasn't looking for it. Put it this way: it's still not comparable to a 1st generation (2G) iPhone in terms of scrolling smoothness.

I think the "power of suggestion" is having an impact on everyone.

It's one of those things that you need to know what you're looking for. It's like playing a video game. If you're the type that probably wouldn't notice the difference of an Xbox game running at 30fps or 60fps, then you might not notice the change in the phones behavior.

Just know that the scrolling is definitely smoother, but it does have its slight hiccups. I still don't think it's Iphone-smooth, but a huge improvement.

I notice a lot less blur when scrolling at a medium speed through twitter lists/app drawer/contacts etc. Also, swiping left/right on my home screens seems more responsive.

...maybe it's just me--having only had my Evo for 1.5 weeks, but it doesn't seem to improve -that- much...but i am running an avg of 53fps compared to the 27 fps average yesterday. woot.

i'd never experienced the GPS issue that it was claiming to fix, too. so that wasn't something i was anticipating.
yes, i'm sure if i'd been using the phone longer, it would appear much more smoother.

i've only noticed that the app tray scrolls much quicker.
but i'm not a fan of having to re-bookmark my internet now. minor inconvenience.

hope i see why the hype is so high soon!

I was having issues with going from Landscape to Portrait (would wait forever), now it's automatic That used to bug me. I am a happy person today. Scrolling is much smoother and faster. Good job HTC. This phone is amazing!!!!

I see a big difference with my screen responsiveness. Also a video I took before the update was choppy when I played it back. Now it plays smoothly.
I'd consider that a big deal.

It is definitely smoother than before. For example, if you have a long web page, trying a fast swipe up or down, it is just smooth. Before, it would stutter here and there. However, if you move it up and down slowly, it still does stutter a bit.

I guess I'm basing my opinion on the comments this morning. Most of them go somethign like this: "wow, my phone flies now!", "man is everything crazy-smooth, it's like butter!", "It's like a brand new phone!!", etc , etc ,etc.

This gave me the impression that the improvement was both dramatic, and something that would be extremely obvious to anyone who has used the Evo for a while. (and I have since July) It doesn't sound like something that would only be noticeable by "people who knew what to look for."

I'm very sensitive to scrolling smoothness and animations - it's my chief complaint about every non-iPhone smartphone. Is the scrolling better now? Yes. Is the difference dramatic? IMO, no. Not even close to dramatic. in fact, I'm beginning to think you're all delusional. I think I'm going to stop by the Sprint store 1 block away from me today and compare my Evo to one of their (likely) non--updated Evos.

For those that are not "seeing" the difference try this...

Go into the Gallery and scroll through the thumbnails. I've noticed the biggest difference in the Gallery.

Yep, I DO see a difference in the gallery for sure. I'm not sure I'd call it dramatic, but it's noticeably better. I also see a slight improvement in the gmail app. But scrolling vertically in the app launcher, web browser, and Peep app seem about the same as before - lots of hiccups.
