Stock email sms permissions

I'm going to try the stock email app for my work Exchange account.

One of the permissions it asks for is sms permissions. What's the deal with that? Does that allow my work to read sms on my device?

Corporate permissions for exchange mail are all about security, not being able to read something on your phone. I don't know why SMS is singled out, my experience was control of either the entire device or a work section if the device allowed that. Have you asked your corporate IS&T department?
