Stock messaging app no notification sound

New to the S9+. So far I really like the phone, but the stock messaging app isn't giving me a notification sound. I've checked all of the sound settings, but that didn't work. Funny thing is that my wife's S9+ is also doing the same thing. I got the google messages app from the play store, and that seems to be working fine with notification sounds. Curious if anyone else has had this problem?

No problems here. It's the only Messaging app I've ever used on my S9+.
