Stock Messenger question

Right now I am using the stock messenger and for some reason when i open messenger the counter at the bottom is stuck at 2 for "all messages" and "sms/mms". I deleted all my messages and it doesn't reset. Is there any way to get it to reset?

Menu> Settings> Applications> Manage Applications> Running (tab on top)> Scroll to.. Messages> Open and clear the cache and data.
