Anyway to backup apps and or info on the stock rom when not rooted

All I know is being able to backup once rooted. I have not read or heard anyone say you can do so until that point.

Check this link, there's some indication that unrooted backup exists- though you may have to pay ($5) for it, but there's a trial too.

The only thing i would say is that if you are unrooted, you cannot load applications from a 3rd party. And doing a backup is technically third party. If it works, hey, high five.

But i would suggest doing the free trial, backup a non important application, delete it and then try to restore it. I had someone suggest this to me when i rooted my captivate and found out the 3rd party blockage.

Actually, what if he just gets an update.zip for clockwork. That actually will allow you to make a backup of the phone, and is now becoming the preferred way of loading recovery since it is one less step. OP pm me your email and I will send you a share of the zip on my dropbox.
