Long time lurker....first time poster. Please be gentle.

I picked up an Aria w/ ATT a few months back to 'test drive' Android. Short story--love it, want more of it. Which brings me to my dilemma---do I break contract with ATT and pick up an Evo?

With some many rumors of new phones, faster networks and such; is the Evo still out-front hardware-wise and is Sprint a leader in 4G speed?

I realize nothing is future proof (I've got enough drawers of gadgets to know that) but will the latest and greatest of '11 cause me to switch again?

Welcoming feedback, opinions, and such....

The Evo is still one of the best phones out there, but I have a feeling that's soon to change. Since you already have a phone you love, I would wait until some of these LTE and dual core phones come around.

With all the talk of dual core and 1+gHz processors coming in Q1-2 of '11 plus LTE on Verizon; my brain says 'wait'. But that Evo is just so sexy....

I love my Evo, I've done research on these "dual core" chips, their not that big of a deal compared to the 1Ghz Snapdragon. Keep in mind as well that any phone with any kind of Super Processor will suck battery life to oblivion. Think... if the Evo has a 1Ghz processing speed, and it's currently clocked in the 800's Mhz range, then any phone that is over that, with a battery any smaller than the evo or standard phone, the battery life will be crap.

LTE wont be out until later in 2011, that's IF there are no delays. Sprint already has the 4G network, and T-Mobile is amazing with their HSPA+ or whatever it is.

Also... verizon is WAAAAAY too expensive with Android. I had a droid with unlimited everything, WITH a military discount, I paid 135/mo. With sprint and 3 lines I pay 150/mo. T-Mobile is great too... but it's personal preference... I don't like Verizon, and they are charging something like $10/mo for 5GB of data per month, and $20/mo for 10GB of data, then if you go over... it's pretty expensive.

There was acutally an article on the AC homepage about it. They blogged about Verizon's rate plan. Look into it...

Do research because once you're signed... you're signed. Verizon WILL NOT budge on their cancellation fee no matter how hard you tried. I had to get rid of my cell phone because I work in a secure building, no cell phones allowed, and I didn't want to pay $135/mo for a phone I didn't use during the day. Even with military orders and a letter from my Commanding Officer, they wouldn't budge. AND they charged me a TAX on the cancellation FEE. It's absurd.

With Sprint's family plan, I pay $60/mo for my portion of the bill. For everything AND MORE with my Evo.

Thats IMHO.

Evo will be a classic, but hardware and technology will soon pass it. Wait a few months, but tomorrow isn't promised. Good luck, I always go with now.

If I had to choose an android phone on any us carrier other than verizon it would be the evo on sprint I have wimax in my area and the phone is great. I don't have tmo 3g like Phil and their coverage is spotty at best

Well... TMo uses clearwire for their 4g network... I've heard rumors of Sprint talking of buying clearwire and Tmo... Sprint owns 50% of clearwire anyway, and clearwire is broke... hence the delay in 4g coverage. No $ = no towers = no coverage...
