My son has a 16gb GS3 and it has some apps that need updated but it won't let him because it states that there is no more storage space. What can be done besides deleting apps or buying a 32gb phone. I was thinking SD card but I don't believe you can store apps on them. Suggestions?

I think that it depends on what else is stored on the internal storage besides apps. If there is a lot of music/pics/videos on internal storage, you could buy an SD card and move all that over. Then, you can set the phone to store new pics/videos on the SD card going forward. Probably need more info to make other suggestions.

Strictly apps (games like mindcraft). Very little pictures. No music.

Unfortunately, there's no simple way to move apps to the SD card. Maybe he can uninstall a couple of apps he rarely uses any more.

But check this: in Settings, tap Storage. See how much is allocated to different categories. There may be a bunch of space taken up by downloads that are no longer needed, and more used up by pictures or Audio that you'd think.

IN MY OPINION, to be using close to 12 gb's for just apps would mean he's got over 1,000 apps installed. I currently have 132 apps installed, taking up 2.63 gb's. Definitely check Setting -> Storage. Tap the Downloads section and see if there are downloads that can either be deleted or transferred to a PC, also tap the Miscellaneous section, there may be things in there that are no longer needed. There's got to be a reason for using that much storage space if he's not storing music, pictures, movies etc.

Some of these games are huge, and completely unlike the typical Android app in terms of space requirements, so your comparison may not be completely accurate.

I'm going to check all this out when I get home this evening. I know he has tons of Mindcraft apps and they're huge in size.

Just saw your thread. How is your space checking out?

Spent most of the evening cleaning it up. WOW! My son is a Minecraft freek and had tons of screen shots of what he has built on that game. Bought him a SD card to fix that. Cleared up over 4GB doing that. Cleaned up the Misc. file and deleted apps he was not using. Freed up about 7GB total.

Screenshots don't seem like much, but like alcohol...a lot of little bottles equals one big bottle. Games also put on way too much garbage for files anyway. It's sad.
