I have been using straight talk for 2 years and never really had a problem, but I used only Straight talk phones. I wanted a better phone and I love the Nexus 4 so I decided to go the Sim Card route and purchase the phone...I am not very cell phone savvy when it comes to the lingo, but I did manage to cut my Tmobile Sim, enter the APN settings and get it working properly...I can send and receive calls and texts just fine...when I am at home the internet on my phone works fine because of my wi-fi, but when I leave my house there is a G above my signal strenth bars and my internet goes to crap, it's so slow...It's driving me crazy!! any help would be greatly appreciated!!! thanks!!

The sim doesn't affect the signal strength. Did you always use straight talk with tmobile, I would be surprised that the nexus would be worse than your older phones signal strength. May want to check the signal strength in your area on tmobiles coverage map to see if your in a poor coverage area.

ATT may be a better option for you on straight talk, should check coverage from them also to compare.
