I had a Optimus S given to me and I now have it rooted and running cm7. I love this thing and everything it can do. But the one thing it won't do is make phone calls cause I can't have it switched to my provider. So Im wondering can I gat my Optimus S to run on StraightTalk or this "Cricket" provider I recently heard about on these forums?

Cricket for sure beyond that not to sure. Straight Talk would involve a federal crime called esn cloning

Id go cricket...i think straight talk is pre paid right? if yer gonna go that route id check out virgin.
if not prepaid then cricket. Theyre price is hard to beat and if you leave in a metro area theyre service can be pretty decent too.

Cricket is generating a lot of attention these days. Only thing that bugs me about the way they market is that they say "Unlimited Data." yet there is a 1GB cap and they make no mention of what happens if you get into a roaming area for data. $0.25/minute? I'd have to quarantine a few Google apps.

Straight Talk has great service in my area. The LG Optimus Q runs on Straight Talk. Its unlimited everything for like 50$ a month and if it is capped its well over 1gig but im not 100% on this yet.

Since discussion of information on how to do "esn cloning" is not permitted I want to know how simple it is compared to rooting. Im not going to be doing anything shady I just want my phone to work on a provider other than Sprint. Shoot I don't even know what an ESN is yet... Time to go do some research!

cricket sounds scary with the roaming charge. i live in Sault ste Marie, Michigan a boarder town with Canada and we bounce off there towers a lot so forget cricket.

I hope its as easy as rooting and installing cm7 was.

I just saw a commercial for another carrier last night, possibly AT&T. They screamed "UNLIMITED DATA" at me for 26 seconds, then proceded to state the unlimited data plan was limited to 2GB/month in fasttalk at the end. Where do these people get off? That is false advertising if I've ever seen it. Granted, most folks will never get anywhere near 2GB/month, but don't mislead people. They were also advertising 4G plans, yet they are an HSPDA+ network. Ridiculous.
