So, last night I transferred data from my 8 Pro to my 9 Pro XL. All went well so I powered off the 8 Pro for the night. Fast-forward to this evening ... I plug the 8 Pro in (still powered off) because I remembered the battery was fairly low. Take it off the charger and go to power it up and I am met with the recovery screen saying something along the lines that it couldn't load the system and it may be corrupt. If it continues that a factory reset may have to be done. I had two options - try again or factory reset. I opted to try again and the phone bootlooped for a LONG time! Long enough to cause a bit of a freak out cuz I need to phone to trade in ... It finally came back to that screen and this time I opted to wipe and all seems OK.

Never had this happen before and this is the first time I've ever transferred data ... I'm sure it's just a coincidence, but strange I bootlooped after the first time transferring data to a new phone

Wow your old phone is not happy with you , glad you got it done. Most likely just a coincidence. I usually transfer over from phone to phone before I reset and turn in the old one. This time though I made a backup of the old one through the settings. Reset the phone at the BestBuy store and when I got home I used that previous phone back after going through a few of the first screens on the P9XL
