Hi All ,

Im having some strange and annoying problems after recently updating my Samsung S7 and i would like to know how to resolve these problems if possible.

First issue is that after updating i am seeing a weird spacing beetween the top widget and the status bar. It seems that the spacing has doubled and makes the overall look of the home screen worse. I have provided the below screenshot , has anyone else noticed this?

Im new to Android (coming previously from IOS) and only purchased my brand new Galaxy S7 around 2 months ago and have since loved it up until this point. I had taken a screenshot of the software page before the update and after the update and if anyone can give me insight into what has changed then that would be helpful. Its hard to track the content of software updates on Android as im not sure exactly what part of the phone has changed as i thought initally this would only be a security update. Also im struggling to find anyone else mentioning this update online, is there a specific page through samsung or another company that has the update changelist?

After:

Also after updating im noticing that the OS feels much less responsive and lags when navigating menus. There was also some weird app called "Traffic Reply" that installed after the update which is shown in the following screenshot :

I tried lanching it but apparently it was not available in my country, so im not sure why it even botherd to automatically install on my system. I went ahead and uninstalled it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
If anyone can help me then that would be appreciated because its made my phone performance worse and introduced the other issues as explained. If i can even revert back to the last update then that would be good. Any help or similar reports would be useful to me so that im certain its not just limited to my device alone.

Thanks & Kind Regards

Welcome to Android Central! What happens if you long-press that BBC Weather widget -- does it allow you to move it up a bit more on the screen to eliminate that gap? Or can you resize the widget?

Try also wiping the cache partition, which won't erase any personal data: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-24999

Hi , thanks for the reply. The BBC weather widget including all other widgets are only movable up to the point shown in the screenshot and i'm fairly certain that before the update the widgets sat nicely under the status bar if you dragged it up to the top.

I might try clearing the cache partition again, i have done it once a few months ago and i hope that it might help. Thanks for suggesting this. I wish it was easier to track updates on Android, well at least for the S7 speaking from direct experience. Even having a small description of the content included for each update would help (even if its a minor fix), a bit annoying but fingers crossed for the cache partition suggestion.

Quick Update

I have tried wiping the cache partition and i can still see the spacing issue as per the screenshot the i had provided. Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly but could anyone confirm if the widget/status bar spacing as per my image is the same for your S7 device on Nougat. Could be that im recalling wrong and that it has always been this way, or maybe this update has truly changed this aspect.

Would be interesting to hear some feedback.

Thanks

Might be a problem with the widget rather than the launcher. Basically the launcher provides a bigger space than the widget is capable of occupying, hence the extra space on top. If you long press to resize the widget, I bet you will see the blue box still take up the space above. Here are sample comparisons on my phone with the Play Music Widget and the Keep widget

You can see the keep widget closer to the top.

This is actually a reason why I use Nova Launcher. Pet peeves. Lol. I can adjust the grid and padding just to make sure the widgets are as close as possible. Lol.

Here's my usual homescreen with Nova. Swipe. Gestures on everything. Even the icons. Like a swipe up on the FB icon launches Messenger for example, or a Swipe up on Google Maps launches Waze. But you can see how I made the icons close to each other. I don't use widgets though.
