strange no call sound issue

I purchased an s4 roughly four months ago and just started having problems with the in call speaker. What happens is, if I make a call the phone dials and connects to the called number however there is no dial ring or sound from either the speaker or the speaker phone. A reset, battery pull or factory reset does not fix the issue however i noticed that removing the battery and sim card together does, however roughly 3 hrs later the same problem occurs and I need to remove the sim card again to fix and make a call.

Is this a carrier issue or should I look at new phone replacement/warranty?

I haven't been able to replicate the issue... What I would try to do in your position is get another SIM card to try it out.
