Strange problem with Google contacts

I synced my google contacts with my phone and they are on my phone. If i go to people - view I show 466 contacts and google is checked. If i go to people I am the only one there. If I search or dial they are there but if i just look at people it does not show them. I reset calendar storage but that did not help. I added a contact on my phone to the google contacts and the count went to 466 and the one I added shows up on the phone.

Any ideas

Are you using the VZW backup app? I read in some other thread where they said it was doubling their contacts(every so often) and weird stuff like that ,but you did not mention if you was using that app.

nope but they are not doubled either they just do nor show up in people.

Are they grouped any way? Have you tried clearing everything and then syncing

nope and i have synced them several times.
