Stream movies off hard drive?

Or Kodi/XBMC if you want the greatest flexibility without a server to transcode. If all you need is an external you can plug in a powered external HD into the micro USB and you should be good to go. You will need to sideload something like ESExplorer for file access and a mouse or keyboard.

Note that Plex currently requires a paid subscription (Plex Pass) for you to use their official app on the Nexus Player. Kodi/XBMC works good so far (a few bug reports on the Kodi Forums, but probably something they'll get resolved since it may be more of a Android 5.0 issue than a Nexus Player problem -- just guessing though)), and even shows up in the Main Menu of the Nexus Player.

I hooked up my USB hub and have my wireless mouse and USB memory stick and external hard drive connected. You can also use ES Explorer and add your network share there and launch your movies that way.
