stupid question re: unlocked verizon phone

i left verizon recently and ported my number to google fi. before i left i called verizon to confirm my phone was unlocked. they said it was. my phone is paid for and now has a mostly functional google fi sim card in it. but whenever i restart it i get the verizon screen and a notification that there isn't a verizon sim in the phone. i also get periodic requests to update verizon apps.

stupid question: do i have to factory reset the phone to get rid of all of these verizon apps etc? or is there something less painful i can do?

I believe if I remember correctly a member disabled the Verizon account app

thank you. it seems like more than an app, like the operating system is verizon. restarting the phone shows an animated verizon logo and it always tells me the sim is not from verizon.

can that be deleted? or did this phone have to be unlocked from the beginning?

It's a Verizon branded sim unlocked, if you want can flash to Samsung unlocked no branded just Samsung logo when boot up , but I'm going try to search for that thread and come back how that member disabled that sim card warning
