Sudden high pitched screeching noise during phone calls

For the past 8 months, ever since I got my s7 edge, I occasionally hear a very sudden, high pitched screeching noise during a phone call, but the person I'm talking with doesn't hear it at all. After a few seconds it will suddenly stop, then sometimes happen again within seconds, then suddenly stop for the remainder of the call. The screeching noise almost sounds like a train suddenly slamming on its brakes: metal rubbing rapidly against metal. Then, yesterday, the same problem started with my wife's s7 edge for the first time, but she's been hearing it quite frequently during calls. Anyone have the same experience or any clues about fixing this problem?

Does that happen while on a wired or Bluetooth headset as well, or on speakerphone?

If you have WiFi calling enabled, try turning it off and see if the problem persists. I had this issue, and believe that it was related to calls transitioning to/from WiFi calling.

I normally use a wired headset while on the phone. Why - do you believe this problem relates to my headset? I use the same headset on a landline as well, without any problems, so I doubt my headset has anything to do with the problem. I occasionally use the speakerphone of my s7 Edge, and I haven't heard the screeching then (but I don't use the speakerphone very often).
