After 4 months of use, tonight for no apparent reason my S4 got hot and shut itself down. I'm not a heavy user by any stretch; in fact I used it for about an hour for internet sites tonight. Do I just wait for it to cool down and hope it doesn't happen again?

Welcome to Android Central! If it starts getting hot again, check your battery stats to see if anything unusual seems to be using more battery than it should.

A hot battery can also suggest a corrupt file on your SD card, because the system's Media Scanner can get hung up on the file, which can increase CPU usage and battery usage. See what happens if you unmount the card (in Settings>Storage), remove it, and reboot. Also try inserting the SD card into your computer and running chkdsk to look for bad sectors: http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...guide-using-chkdsk-fix-corrupted-sd-card.html
