Suddenly Google Messages mms hangs up on "sending" phase.

When trying to send a message on Google Messages with an attached photo, the mms message shows "sending"...for ever! In fact, I couldn't even find a way to delete the perpetually "sending" message. I finally had to delete the entire message series history with that particular person. I did this because I assume sending continually isn't too good?

I don't think I could have changed any setting to cause this, and I definitely was able to send mms before. I've searched the problem online, and tried the few "solutions" I could understand, with no success, but most of them were old, maybe outdated.
Any help would be appreciated, but please keep it as simple as possible. :)

Welcome to Android Central! Which carrier are you using? If you're using wi-fi calling, see if this still happens if you turn off wi-fi.

updated "Suddenly Google Messages mms hangs up on "sending" phase."

Sorry, but is there no edit capability here?
I tried a test post on a Messages string that I don't mind deleting to get the "sending" to stop. Now that I look at it hours later it says "Not sent, tap to try again."
From past attempts I know this just restarts a "sending" hangup.

Duplicate threads merged. You need to register in order to continue the discussion in a thread. I'll do this once, but any further responses created as a new guest thread will be deleted, because it's too much of a hassle for Mods to keep doing this. Thanks for understanding.

As i said in what, my profile, or something like that...I'm old and technically computer illiterate. As far as I can see I AM registered?

Ah, I see. Glad to see you're registered -- just make sure you're logged in when you access the forums, thanks! I'll change the guest post owner to you in this thread.

Which carrier are you on? Did you already try turning off wi-fi, or did you mean that doing so restarts the "sending" hangup?

Thanks. I'll try each step, and try to answer each question in the order they're posted. To show you how little I know, i usually have to google most of the terms/directions, so it's going to be ultra slow.

- Force Stop Google Messages App - I did, then checked the message that had been showing "Not sent, tap to try again". It's now showing "sending" again, and I did not "TAP".
- Using Beta? - Not unless I clicked on it accidentally sometime. It's showing: Version 8.0.055 (Quiver_RCO2.phone.dynamics).
- Reset Network in Settings - Result: "Network settings have been reset."
Not sure what that might have done, but I tried a new photo attached to text message with the same "sending" result.

If you're on wi-fi, try turning off wi-fi and just use your cellular/mobile data connection. On some carriers (namely AT&T), sending MMS while on wi-fi calling can be a little glitchy (which is why I've been asking which carrier you're on).

Thanks!

Using Wi-Fi? hmm, "Wi-Fi Not connected" but the circle indicating On/Off is solid green, meaning it should be On, correct? Had to Google to find out how to locate my password for Wi-Fi, but when I go to Settins>Status, it says "You're connected to the internet." Well, at least I continued and found my Wi-Fi password.:)
Since I think I actually am connected, I turned OFF Wi-Fi. I then discovered I had checked "Connect automatically when the network is in range", so I unchecked that. Just for the hell of it I also restarted my phone. Both of my test MMS messages still show "sending". I double checked and Wi-Fi is now showing as Off.

Sorry, I'm getting a little lost here. I think, but definitely not sure, I had to turn Wi-Fi back on in order to post this reply. That shouldn't be the case, should it?

I accidentally found "Mobile network" under "Network & internet", directly below where Wi-Fi shows empty circle for OFF. But there's nothing showing beside "Mobile network", so when i click on it I find "Mobile Data", which I turn ON.
Sorry, I thought I said somewhere, I'm using Straight Talk, which I think usually uses AT&T?

Both test MMS messages are now showing "Not sent, tap to try again", which I think is just due to the length of time they were trying to send?
Is there any other way I should be checking for a change after each of these steps, or are those tests messages the best?

If wi-fi is on and connected to a wi-fi network, you should see a wi-fi icon in your status bar at the upper right of the screen, looking something like this:

ic_network_wifi_48px-512.png

or this:

If you don't see that in your status bar, the you're not connected to wi-fi, and probably just connected to your cellular provider's mobile data network (i.e. 3G or 4G).

It's possible your APN settings aren't quite correct. This is a bit more involved, but see this article:

Make sure the APN settings are correct for Straight Talk: https://bestmvno.com/apn-settings/straight-talk-wireless-apn-settings/
