Suddenly, some music won't play?

My GF has an Samsung Galaxy S7. She uses Google Play as her music player. So far, so good!

A few months ago, she bought a new (physical) CD - ANNO XV by the danish artist L.O.C. So I ripped it to Ogg Vorbis and transferred it to her phone, and everything worked fine.

After 2-3 weeks, she said it no longer worked. Sure enough, it now refused to play any of the files from that album - everything else played fine, only this one album stopped working (saying something along the lines of "cannot play this file" - not really helpful).

After trying just about everything - including copying the files back to the PC and comparing them to the original ones (they matched) and checking if they would play on the PC (they would) and installing Phonograph (which wouldn't play them either), I gave up and ripped the album again, this time as .mp3. Copied them to the phone, and it all worked.

Now, the exact same problem. Again, it refuses to play anything from that specific album. Everything else still works, but the files from this specific album won't play in either of the players...

What gives?

Try downloading the Samsung Music Player. If it works, then it's an issue with the Play Music app.

I have now tried the Samsung Music Player. Unlike the other players, it does not give an error message, it just shows as if it is playing, but the time doesn't count and there's no sound...

Are the files saved on an SD card or internal memory?

Currently on an SD-card, but it doesn't make a difference. I tried copying them to the internal memory, and they still don't work, even if I copy the files over from the pc...

The CD you ripped may have drm which is why.
Seems unlikely about a DRM that triggers after two weeks and affects only the phone and not the PC.

What did you use to rip them?

Seems a really weird issue IMO.

Have you tried clearing system cache?
