There are quite a few threads addressing this question....you might want to take a look at those.....

Keeping my unlimited is always of paramount importance to me.....you will probably find you use more data with this phone....

Unlimited is obviously better. I switched to shared a few months back (to get my daughter an iCrap). I get 6gb for 3 phones, and we barely go over 3gb. I wouldn't worry too much about the limited plan, and $700 seems like a lot to me if your gonna be with a cell provider for 2yrs anyway.

It really depends on what you use your phone for. I had to make the same choice when I bought my phone. I ended up paying full price and don't regret it at all. My plan would have been 10 dollars more a month for 2gb or 20 more a month for 4. Times that by 2 years and I actually saved myself almost 200 dollars. Plus I've had the phone for a week now and I'm already at 5gb. Granted I downloaded a few games and use the gps and stream music almost all day long. But either way I saved myself cash in the long run, don't have to worry about data fees and can use my phone for whatever I want. 4G is actually faster than my wifi in my house so Iget to take full aadvantage of that.

For me, adding a line and being forced into shared wasn't a big deal. I have wifi at home and at work. The key is having wifi available to you at those two places, since that's where most spend their time. I have the 6GB with 6 lines and we barely use 2GB/month.

Unlimited if you can swing the cost of the device at full donkey price - but on the same token, unlimited data is on the way out. Some think it will happen when contracts expire after a certain date, while other says it will simply be phased out.

How much is your monthly bill now? If it will be close to (give or take a few bucks) what you'd pay for a shared plan, I'd say upgrade. Unlimited data is definitely a sought after commodity in the cellphone world but these phones are NOT worth what we pay full price for them. Phones come out and they sell em for say $199 w/ new contract and then 4 months later you'll see it for $49.99 w/ new contract. If these phones were really worth $800, they wouldn't sell em for so cheap at any point in time because they'd be losing a crap load of Money. I'd never pay full price for a cellphone. If we'd all wait and let all those devices pile up in the factories or carrier stores, they'd drop the prices and sell em for chump change... but because they know they're people who are tech junkies and will sell their souls for cellphones, they take advantage and sell em for ridiculous prices. You and your wife only use 3 gigs worth of data anyway so you're good with a 4gig shared plan for $40 bucks a month. Throw around $800 away on a phone that you will see in the store for $49.99 in a few months or just upgrade and pay closer to what that phone is REALLY worth. This is just my opinion of course

My GS3 sleeps in the bed and I make my girlfriend sleep on the couch

thanks for all the suggestions. really appreciate that.

currently paying $170 with 250 text each - with the new shared plan price will be $210.

If you got the cash buy it out right. Your bill is going to be $40 more times that by 24 for you two year contract and you at $960. 960-700=260 so if you do that math your going to be paying 260 more to limit your use. I was in the same boat as you and realized I'm loosing money in the long run and getting less out of my plan.

Yep, no contracts for me.

you'll be saving a few dollars yes but you'll be getting raped for the phone. Pay $40 more and get unlimited texts and calls, enough data for you and the mrs' and pay near what this mini hard drive surrounded by cheap plastic is really worth. Then a newer phone will come out in a couple months and you'll want that one and will have to pay full price again. You might win this time by saving a few Dollars but the Money they'll make off u in the long run by you paying full price for phones to keep your unlimited plan will add up. These cellphone companies will NEVER lose! they went through a recession unscathed. So when you think you're getting over, you're really not. If you have the Money to blow, then make it rain, but to me none of these phones are worth what they ask full price for. Again, just my opinion

I'm still on a regular family plan with unlimited texting but not unlimited minutes. Our bill would have gone up slightly to switch (4 ppl), as the base fee of 40$ per smart phone is unbelievably stupid since that means with the original +10 and 30 for data, you are paying the same amount, for less data since then you go over to a 2GB shared instead of individual shared. I'm not sure that's an option for you. We were not forced to share everything. I decided go give up my unlimited data since locking it in would essentially mean I'm committing to paying full price for a new phone every 20 months if I want to "take advantage" of the discount for new tech.
