I went to go pick up an epic this morning for my girlfriend. I was very surprised to find no line at all.

I remember the Evo launch and people were lined up all over. I would have thought the hype would have been equal to that of the Evo.

Just found this strange... anywho now I have both phones to play with.

I knew it would be like that plus the epic is on all carriers.... Not saying its garbarge or anything but I knew it wouldn't live up to the evo..

The Galaxy S phones (Epic, Vibrant, Captivate, and Fascinate) are on all the major carriers.

The Epic is different in that it has a physical keyboard, but the processor, memory, screen, etc are all the same.

Epic has to be the best phone i ever used. I also had an Evo. Got rid of it.

Yeah I happened to stop by Best Buy today, and the Sprint Rep was there for the launch and let me play with his EPIC. There were no lines @ 10 a.m. and they said they had plenty to sell to people without pre-orders.

The keyboard is a pretty massive difference. Enough to make someone switch carriers, so it's not available across the board.

Not really surprised. People tend to jump for things that sound like upgrades. Going from 8MP to 5, and 4.3" to 4, and no kickstand (but gain a keyboard) doesn't feel like an upgrade for most who don't dig more than skin deep.

I think most of the people buying them are those that need to have a hardware keyboard or those who always want the latest and greatest. Everyone else bought an Evo.

Pretty much. And those latest and greatest types are probably limited with the Evo coming 3 months prior and exactly when the early Pre adopters were upgrade eligible.

I actually went to a best buy in New York City and they said all of them were preordered and they had none left to sell. She showed me the stack and it was a lot. Anyway, who cares how many they sold. I fail to see why anyone should be concerned about that. When the Evo launched I didn't see a line either and it was easy to get at Bestbuy and Sprint. This isn't an iphone you know.

Well I hope Sprint sell a bunch. Maybe that will give them more incentive to launch more 4G markets and more 4G devices.

The EVO is the flagship device at Sprint right now... The Epic is a complimentary phone.... It's for people who want the big screen and 4G service but also want a physical keyboard or just don't like touchscreen keyboards at all.... I don't think the Epic was ever meant to replace or outsell the EVO.... Looks like a decent phone but I don't like sliding keyboards as it's just some thing else that can break and it does feel like a plastic toy.. It does not have a very solid great feel to it....

Well u guys know what I meant.. I was rushing.. But all galexy S phones fall on all carriers.. I dont think its enough of a change to have a bunch of people jumping carriers.. Plus as someone else mentioned The evo came out at the perfect time when all the pre buyers were eligible for a upgrade.. I really think this phone just appeals more to people that always want the newest thing out... I still like the evo better IMHO...

Hmmm thats odd seeing as how hardly anyone could find a evo and to this day its still hard to get one from sprint... I called for my indecisive girl friend at 10 a.m. yesterday and they had 6... She couldnt make up her mind if she wanted to get it so we went back at 4:00pm and they were all gone..
