Has anyone been able to get vz to switch their 4G phone to a 3G phone? I have had it with 4G and want a 3G phone. I would settle for CLNR 3G phone. For me a slow RELIABLE data connection is better than a fast unreliable one.

if you do your search options on here, you can manually switch your phone to 3G. i think in the market there is an app called LTE on/off or something like that.

You don't need an app. Can make the switch in your settings

my understanding is the charge can be se to 3G, however if there is is a 4G outage you cannot get get any data connection. This is what happens to me.

I think the OP is talking about getting a new phone that is 3G, not how to change the settings.

It's not customary for them to give out phones but you can purchase one or see if you can upgrade. Maybe if your lucky you can have them FRU out your phone but that's rare. Just explain your frustration and see if that works. You will need to speak with a supervisor I'm sure.

Thanks for the info. If I could get it to switch to rev a, that would be OK. When I try setting the 3G mode it does not show rev A. It shows ehrpd. Tried battery pull, remove/replace simcard, no difference.

Try this (Unobtanium linked to an article above).

•Go to the ThunderBolt's phone dialer. Enter ##778# and hit Send.
•You'll get a pop-up labeled EPST, with the choice to "View Mode" or "Edit Mode." You want "Edit Mode."
•You'll be asked for a password. It's 000000.
•Now flip down to "Modem Settings," and then choose "Rev. A."
•Change the setting from eHRPD to "Enable," hit OK, then press the Menu button on the phone and tap "Commit Modifications."

I tried the above, it does not work for th droid charge.

:-( Sorry. I don't know anything about the chipsets in the phones to guess whether the Droid Charge has a Rev. A. option. You might try calling Verizon (long process, I know) and complain nicely about the data dropouts, and see if they elevate you to the next Tier of tech support who might have access to similar stuff for your handset. Or they might do what you suggested at the start and get you into a 3G only device.

With the Verizon CS call centers, it's all about politeness, persistence, and sometimes, calling back later and winding up with a different person on the line. Every time I've started off with VZW on the phone with a "I have this problem and I need someone to help me" attitude and tone, I've had pretty good results.

I will try the above. Right now I am out of town. Iwilltry when I get back. One thing I noticed is I have not had one data problem in my current location. Could be the network is hosed or overloded in my home location.

Exactly.

Due to the nature of data signals being somewhat a mystery to troubleshoot for normal users, there is much voodooism being passed around. It is sometimes very difficult to weed through it all.
