Switch from Sprint to Verizon?

I'm on Sprint and I live in Irvine, CA. There's a Sprint store across the street, but there's no WiMax in my area. My cousin, with a Verizon Galaxy Nexus, showed full bars LTE at my house. Should I switch to Verizon since I'm guaranteed to have LTE in my area (which is very important to me). Or, should I risk it and stay with Sprint, hoping they get LTE in my area. (If WiMax coverage is any indicator of eventual LTE coverage, I'm worried.) What do you think?

IMO wait a few months if you can and see what Sprint rolls out. if you can sit tight for a little and not be in a rush that's your best bet. it never pays to be in a rush.

good luck.

if u can deal with 2gbs of data run and don't look back. I personally would have left when they had double the data. That's what I did.. To be truthfully I have a feeling its going to take sprint a long time to roll out their 4g.

From the best android phone PERIOD. Galaxy Nexus.

That's another reason I left sprint. When u compare Verizon's lineup of phones to sprint its abysmal. But the one leg up they did have that I give them credit for is the gs2 but I don't think Verizon will make that mistake again.

huh? you left for a G-Nex which Sprint will have soon. all of the other derivative Droids and RAZRs etc. should be irrelevant to your decision process. as long as a carrier has the phone that you want - who cares what else they have?

For me, it's specifically about having LTE in my area, not waiting for another phone. There'll always be better phones months away. Since Verizon shows full bars of LTE in my area right now, and I don't even go over 1GB of data per month, I'll probably make the switch. (to the Verizon GN, since it's only $99 on Amazon wireless). To wait for Sprint to possibly get LTE in my area would be like denying a perfectly good heart transplant from Verizon right now, just for loyalty's sake) Thanks for all the input!

Sorry to say it but the Galaxy nexus will be old news by the time sprint gets it. And how many high end phones has sprint got besides the Gs2? In the last two moths Verizon has had the Galaxy nexus, Rezound, and the Razr Max. I actually left due to the double the data because 3g is abysmal and wimax cant penetrate a wet paper bag. Those phones are not irrelevant because its choice I want. But truthfully their data network is pathetic next to Verizon. Post ur speed tests if ur on sprint and Ill post mine. I'm sure it won't even be close. Lol

Your both correct. I left sprint 2 months ago, had the epic touch 4g,the Evo 3D, the NS4G, and the OG Evo (I like to try new phones every few months :D) and my 3g speeds were absolutely garbage on all of the devices but my bill was always good to look at.

I switched to Verizon mainly for the 4G and happened to get a Galaxy Nexus on my way but my bill makes me want to vomit. Luckily I called Verizon to tell them I was going to cancel because 5G or 10g wasn't even close to what I would need being a business owner so they hooked me up with a 20g package.

Long story short! Sprints prices are incredible (and remember last summer they did have the best phone line up IMO) but I'll pay every penny for this 4G.

Waiting for Sprint LTE to hit your town makes no sense unless you like the waiting game OR 3G is suffice for your needs. Frankly 3G Sprint in NYC is abysmal and wimax coverage is the only signal that can allow me to listen to internet radio in the car for Pete sake.

Anywho, there isn't a huge incentive to stick with carriers these days anyway.... In 2 years when your contract is up, you can see how the cards line up then.

And sheesh there is always early termination after a year or so. Beats buying a phone at off-contract prices.

I'm a pissed off EVO 4G early adopter since day 1. I'm in Detroit metro area so I do not believe any claims of getting LTE in my area until at least 2013. Was continually promise wimax 4G AND CHARGED FOR IT everytime I called sprint. I'm most likely going to jump to Verizon and eat the cost increase to get LTE now and a galaxy nexus. Bringing 5 phones on my family plan with me

Snowcrash,

I share your pain. I too live in the D, or metro D, rather and picked up the Evo 4G on day 1. Receiving the 4G Wimax elbow for over 2 years only to once again stand in the LTE wait line sucks... badly. I have been able to get 4G while downtown, but coverage is spotty. Even at Comerica Park where there is a clear view of the sky, it is hit or miss. Now I'm in a situation where I want to upgrade my Evo to something a bit more snappy and feature-rich but in order to do so I have to make a difficult choice.

1. Do I drop Sprint for Verizon? - The monthly bill and bandwidth caps of Verizon are not appealing.
2. If I stick with Sprint, would I get the 4+ month old Galaxy Nexus to avoid Sprint Bloatware and keep hope alive for faster Google releases?
3. Do I hold off even longer for a potential Samsung Galaxy S3? Sounds like it's rumored to be a nice phone, but how much longer do I wait?
4. Do I continue to hang on, waiting for Sprint to get 4G LTE coverage?

I know that whatever I pickup will be better than my Evo 4G. In addition, in 6 months from know, it will also be out of date.

I only know one thing, iPhone is not an option.

I agree. Sometimes, in my moments of weakness, I think about jumping ship to the iPhone. The hardware is nice and the software well implemented.

The reasons I wouldn't switch to the iPhone are:
* The phone is too small - I actually like the large displays and if Sprint offered the Galaxy Note I would strongly consider it. That said, I am very much looking forward to my Nexus :)
* I don't like that Apple treats the actual download of the app purchase as the purchase, rather than having it available again. I could be wrong on this, but that is my understanding on it.
* The customization that I have grown accustomed to would be gone. Widgets, adjustable home screens, custom keyboards, Tasker profiles, etc... I really enjoy playing around with these functions and making my mobile device truly my own.

I thought wimax it was staying on for another year or so as a transition to lte, doesvit make sense to keep a wimax device till lte is available in your city?

I still can't wrap my head around this simple and obvious contradiction:

4G LTE + Limited data(4gb)???

Why?

I'm ok with limited data but 2GB is a joke on a LTE phone. Least ATT raised the base capacity to 3GB. Think I might head over there.

I am in the same debate right now. i currently have a photon and an epic for my wife. I get a nice discount on sprint, and almost the same on big red. I use less than a GB a month due to wifi at home but none at work. 3G speeds have been faster than 4G speeds as of late on stock rom on the photon.

So my bill is family plan at 129.99
4G fee x2 10.00
protection x2 8.99
total 158.97 before taxes etc and discount

Now If I were to move to big red here is one thing i would change
family plan 69.99
data plan (4GB promo)x2 30.00
protection x2 6.99
total 144.96 before taxes and discount

Notice on VZW i would have no texting plan. would give out my GV number instead.

Another note is I am in Austin which is now said to be on the first roll out market. So what would you guys do?

Oh and amazon has the razr for 69.99 and the galaxy nexus for 79.99 for new customers. Wife is elegible for an upgrade now, i will be in june or july...should I stay or should I go?

 I am torn between what to do and what not to do...
