switch to silent without unlocking the phone

IS there anyway to do this just like kitkat? do I really have to unlock my phone everytime to switch modes ?

Unfortunately, you can't have a PIN or pass code set to change modes from the lock screen.

You should still be able to swipe down the notification bar and toggle the modes, unless you are password protected. I have mine to swipe to unlock when connected to Wear. In this instance I can swipe down the notification bar. If not connect and I need my fingerprint, I can't swipe down the notification bar.
