Switching from 3G to LTE & unlimited

I'm going to guess I'll be losing my unlimited unless I buy another 3G phone on my own, but...

I'm currently on a 3G unlimited plan. If I bought a phone outright such as the developer SGSIII and activated it on my line what would happen. Would I be forced to renew my contract to start using LTE? My guess is "yes". Thanks

Nope, you can keep your unlimited. I went from an iphone 4s (blech) to a Rezound that I traded for on Craigslist and get 4G but kept my old unlimited plan. I did have to go in and get a SIM card but they are free and no trouble. My husband did the same thing; he bought a Rezound off of CL, took it in, got a SIM, and no changes to our plan. We even asked the rep to do an account check for us to see if we would save money on the new plans and he said no way, to keep our plan for as long as we possibly could.

And we get 4G speeds. So go for it!

I'm always trying to teach ones how to keep there unlimited vzw plans these are the things to pass on to others- definitely try to buy a used phone on CList, eBay or
From a friend- you will only loose your unlimited if sign a "new contract" with vzw that is when you buy a new phone for the "subsidized" price if you have money to blow you could buy a new phone at full price from vz and keep your unlimited plan so there's a few ways to keep it this will work until vz take our unlimited plans from us so pass it on

Just add a new line of service... Then move the new device to a number with the unlimited data and find a feature phone on Craiglist and drop the data package on the new line. It will cost you $10/Month but you get a new device at the lower price.

When an unlimited line has an upgrade transfer the upgrade to the new line and get a new device and swap the equipment.

I have 2 of lines on my account that I do this with so that my other 2 last lines don't lose the unlimited data.

Yep, we thought we would be stuck on 3g or made to change plans when we activated used phones, but not so. VZW actually even processed a warranty claim on my used Rezound when the charge port went out. So, certainly an option!

Yes. I never had any issues before. Think I even got them to warranty a thunderbolt that was out of the 1 year manufacturer.

Just so know for the people that are out of contract. Verizon can wake up one morning and say everybody has to switch to a tiered plan. I have ATT unlimited data that I signed a 2 yeaf contract in July so if they force me out of unlimited data I can leave without an ETF.
