I'm trying to switch to Android messaging app but when I choose to make it my default messaging app it doesn't load any conversations from the Samsung sms app. It worked on my S8+ but not on the note 8. I've already tried to uninstall, clear cache etc.. Only reason I want to switch messaging apps is cause of Android Wear doesnt support stock Samsung sms.

The default incoming SMS app is the one installed when you get the phone. You could try Default App Manager to change the default to the Android app, but if it works like the Phone app, incoming texts will still go to the Samsung app. You'd have to freeze or uninstall that one (which requires rooting, and there's probably no way to root a Note 8 yet) to prevent that.

Had this - and other issues - with switching from the stock messenger app on my Huawei Mate 9 to Google Messenger. Fixed it by installing Textra. But, I believe Huawei may have fixed the problem in an update. But, I'm not looking back.
