I'm about to switch over to the M8 of which im looking forward to but ive been reading loads of threads on here and im worried about this new lollipop update. There are a couple of things I liked on the IOS which i thought would be on the M8 but it seems this new update has maybe killed it (sorry im confused)..

1: How do the headsup notifications work? On the iphone i got annoyed they kept popping up during when i was reading an app. Is it the same for the HTC? Can heads-up notifications be disabled/do they constantly appear when you're currently in an app?

2: The music player app on the lockscreen - is this still available with this update? I read that when on the lockscreen some of the player toggles are not available and you have to unlock the screen to access them?

3: Lock screen widgets - are these still available in the lollipop? I read that calendar events are no longer visible on the lockscreen?

4: Are the notification status icons still visible at the top?

I have an M8, but I rooted/no longer stock. My answers will be guesses based on Lollipop for my Nexus 5:

1. For my N5, they appear as a floating box above what you are already doing. I don't know about iOS, but on my N5, they can be swiped away. You don't need to wait until the notification goes away. You should be able to stop notifications by setting them to Priority, or killing them all.

2. Might depend on the player. Google Music does not have controls on the lock screen.

3. As far as I know, there are no widgets on the lock screen.

4. Yes.

This is still there. It shows up as a notification bar in the middle of the screen. Plus it replaces the lock screen background with the album cover. It's actually pretty nice now.

I'm using Google Play Music so almost everything has album covers. Looks like you get the default grey image of headphones and the artist name at the top.
