Switching phones question

I have an env3 on one of the lines on the family plan. Verizon is potentially letting me upgrade to a nexus on that line. If I get the phone in the mail, i can just activate on my line on the plan? I dont have to get a data plan on the line wih the env3, correct?

If you are switching to a smartphone from the Env, a data plan will automatically be added.

If I understand correctly your wanting to use the phone on a line other than the one you upgraded? If that is the case and your leaving the env3 active on the upgraded line then no you will not have to add a data plan to that line because you are not using a smartphone. You will however may need to go to a corp store or call CS as they probably set the nexus up to activate on the upgraded line.
