Swype issues - "stupid" words, etc.

Ever since EA28 installed my Swype has not worked correctly. There are stupid wrong words that the phone simply will not forget. ("Ii" instead of "I", "tyo" instead of "to", etc.) Even when I tell the phone to delete the stupid word, it comes right back the next time. Swype also makes the second word in each sentence start with a capital letter even though I do not ask for it.

Overall I love using Swype even with these issues but it would be even better if I could correct them. As far as I can see there is no way to update Swype though the phone. Will I have to root it?

Yes you will have to root to get the latest beta swype, which is awesome by the way.

Simple fix... When you see weird words, take them out of the swype dictionary...

1. Type the word in any text box
2. Highlight the word.
3. Hit the button on the bottom left side of the keyboard that.has the exclamation mark inside a circle and a hand under it.
4. Follow the onscreen prompt to remove word from the dictionary.

Hope this helps.

I'm not sure if I'm liking this new update... seems to be not as accurate as the swype that came with the froyo leak. I just started trying it out today so I'll probably have to give it some more time.

I guess I wasn't clear. When I said I try to "delete" the word, I meant I did just what you said: removing that word from the Swype dictionary, only to have them return the next time I try to use Swype! They just won't go away. That's why I'm frustrated. The problem started with EA28.

I am tempted to root my phone, but to be perfectly honest, you guys use words and acronyms that I don't understand. I'm not going to try something unless I understand what I'm doing. Is there a glossery/dictionary/faq of terms on this site? I'm not a total tech noob but I don't know much about phones.

Absolutely. I am a tech noob and was completely lost when I first started so I read everything I could. Here are some very helpful things to read to get a handle on the terminology and understand better your phone, what rooting is, and what you are doing to your phone. I'm like you I don't like doing something if I don't understand what I'm doing. Here you go, hope these help:

Oh, and in case nobody has said it yet, welcome to the AC Fascinate forums. There are all kinds of great people here willing to help.
