Swype: Preinstalled?

A while back I installed a Swype beta on m 4G. Today, I received a message saying Swype 3.0 is availabe. However, there is no unistall availbe for my existing Swype. Everything I read says this only occurs when Swype is pre-installed from the factory.

So, I'm really confused. If I installed Swype, how can it be pre-installed?

Any help appreciated!! P.S., I'm not rooted.

The preinstalled swype is not active by default. To activate it go into setting for keyboard make sure its checked. (That is of course assuming you have more than one installed). Then go to any chat field and long press - input method - then choose swype. I doubt that fully answered your question but I hope it helped.

Sooo, does this mean Swype is pre-installed? I've been using it but want to upgrade to the new beta. BUT, I can't install a beta if it's pre-installed.

I agree, I was excited to use swype but I find I just stick with the normal keyboard.

I'm not much of a fan of swype just don't get the point

The point is it's a faster method of text entry for many many people.

Oh and OP, you can't upgrade the version on your phone unless htc/sprint sends it down in a MR.

updates to Swype on a non-rooted EVO 4G must come from Sprint. you cannot update to Beta 3.0 unless you root and remove the preinstalled Swype.
