Sync doesn't recognize phone

I was going to do the 2.1 update, so I installed HTC Sync on my computer. Then when I attached my phone nothing happened. The computer recognized a "Mass Storage Device" but not the phone.

Any suggestions?

Try installing pdanet on computer.

USB debugging checked? Settings-applications-development check the box.

Same thing happened to me before updating to stock 2.1.

To fix, I turned the phone off (I don't remember if I took the battery out or not, I think I did, I guess for mental effect!), then turned it on again and plugged it and ... perfect again, no issues. 2.1 stock rocks in my opinion, so much faster and enjoying the crap out of it, HTC/Sprint did a nice job, long wait but worth it.
