sync with computer?

I was trying to add some more music to my phone and the transform sync'ed ok but my laptop stopped recognizing the device. do I need a new driver? I just used this last weekend, wtf.

also, I have double entries for all of my contacts. when I go into the contacts list it only shows one number, but when I go to edit the contact it shows the same number twice and when I try to send a message or make a phone call it shows two listings for every number.
