Syncing bluetooth device volume and media volume?

So this a longwinded question. Here goes:

I've had Jaybird X2s for a while and have noticed different bluetooth volume control across various phones/roms/software versions. Sometimes the headphone buttons will directly control my phone media volume. Sometimes I'll have to control both my phone volume (via phone volume rocker) and headphone volume (via inline controls).

Currently it's the latter - two different volumes to control. I hate it. I want my inline controls to be controlling the exact same volume slider as my volume rocker on my 6P. Is this possible somehow? One of the betas acted like this, but it was addressed as a bug and removed. How can I get it back?

I just put my phone on full volume and use the car audio controls to adjust in car volume... Not too complicated and takes half a second

Thats what I do at the moment, but when I plug my phone into anything else it then blasts full volume. Using my Macbook with my X2s it also alters the headphone volume when moving back to the phone. It's not the end of the world, but it's a general annoyance that I'd rather not have.

This feature was added on Android 6.0.1. I noticed today that it was gone in Nougat. Exactly the reason why I'm buying an iPhone next. Google can't seem to make up their minds about things. They make one good thing and then remove it without any reason. Still waiting for Timelapse to come back to the Camera app. Great product. ****ty implementation. Their engineers lack common sense and management lacks long term vision.
