Syncing Contacts From Phone To Google

This seems like something I shouldn't be having a problem with, but..

Problem is my contacts are not syncing to my Google account. I have it set to within Contacts -> Settings -> Contact Storage. Additionally within My Accounts I go to my Google account and the 3 boxes are checked to sync Contacts, Gmail, and Calendar. My Gmail inbox has always synced just fine since day 1 but my phone contacts are not syncing with Google. I cannot access them from my contacts when I open Gmail on my computer, which I was lead to believe should work just fine. I've looked through all settings, forced re-sync, and can't seem to find the problem. Any ideas? Something I'm missing here?

Strange. Mine literally sync within seconds. (gulp) Factory Reset?

Well... Here's what I've been able to gather from another forum:

Since almost all my contacts were imported to my phone thanks to Verizon's Backup Assistant, they are listed as Backup Assistant contacts. Many of them I've "Joined" to their facebook profile, etc. Now based on what I'm learning, only Google contacts are synced to Google, and it appears the only way to get this to happen would be to create a new entry (a Google one) for every contact I want synced, and Join that to their current entry. That sounds incredibly time consuming.. Can anyone verify that thats what I would have to do, and if so if there is any workaround? Would love to just be able to Edit contact type and switch them from a Backup Assistant contact to a Google contact, but that doesn't appear to be an option. Ughhh....

OHHH the dreaded backup assistant contacts. I think you can delete all contacts and let Google sync all your google contacts back to your device, including Facebook.

also found this from the "Contacts?" thread...

I just went ahead and did a hard reset to clear the phone. I then imported each vcf file into my gmail contacts individually, then they all synced up fine after the reset. Took me forever! Thats the last time Ill let them transfer contacts with a machine. What good are contacts if you cant edit them! Oh well, at least I only had the phone for a little over a day. It was no big deal to reinstall the apps and Im now a happy camper! I can now edit my contacts.

Well the issue is that most of my contacts are not on google, they are on my phone and in backup assistant, so they would not be synced back to my phone from google, AFAIK.

However, another guy gave me this idea: Went into backup assistant via verizonwireless.com in my account, I exported all my backup assistant contacts into a .csv file and then imported that into my google contacts on that site.

Whole point is I'm trying to distance myself from needing backup assistant in case I decide to freeze it/remove it/or use a ROM that doesn't have it included.. So I would like to just let Google do all the work of restoring my contacts in case I need to wipe my phone or otherwise lose them, ya know?

Might have it mostly good now that I did that export/import.. Time will tell, lol

I was going to suggest export if that was a possibility with backup assistant. I never used it. On my old windows mobile phone I export them using MS outlook and then imported into google with ease.
