Syncing Facebook

syncing what? if you're talking about contacts, I think i remember reading it doesn't sync contacts from FB.

Facebook calendar was only incorporated into HTC Sense it's not a stock feature. you will have to go into the Facebook app to view the calendar, or you can download an app that may allow you that functionality.

I am soooo happy I no longer have those darn FB and Twiter clients forced upon me by HTC running on the background all the time. Hated those with a passion.

Is good to have a choice of what we need/want on our hedsets without the need to root. I am perplexed as to why Google Earth, Books, Maps and YouTube were included on the ROM... I can easily download the updated versions from the market when and if I need them.

I think it is normal for them to add those apps to the OS. They are Google products.

I took the opportunity to prune all of my contacts from facebook and realized that I had about 800 unnecessary entries. Then I got the "SyncMyPix" apps to download all contact pictures. Im not missing much.

I agree, coming from the palm pre, syncmypix is a way better solution than having my contacts cluttered with a bunch of people I will never communicate with outside of facebook

When you add a contact and then sign into Twitter, it will search your contacts name and link the profiles.

For example, when I click on a contact, under their number and email, I see a Twitter icon with their latest status, but no, you cannot download contacts from any external source besides Google.

What I did...
I had the fine folks at the Sprint store transfer all of my contacts. All pictures, emails, and addresses were gone. All that was left were names and numbers. Cool. They all were automatically synced to my Google account, so I went to manage my Google contacts online and deleted the people I had never talked to and that were only on my contacts list because of Facebook. After that mass-prunage, I have a c.250 contacts list that was much more manageable. Then I used SyncMyPix.

The contact-deleting took about 30 minutes, but it was worth it.

Is there "an app for that" to sync between FB and my contacts? That is one thing that I really liked about the Palm Pre (1 of about only 3 things).

There is no actual app, you must do it yourself

Made me think about getting an Evo, but pruning your own contacts online with Google Contacts is easier than you think.

I'd be careful about this course of action. Other Samsung phones with TouchWiz do this as well, but remember, the FB contact sync wasn't an issue until Android 2.3.4 where Google explicitly blocked FB for violating the API agreement.

None of those phones are on 2.3.4 so you don't know for sure if when they get the GB upgrade that the FB sync will still work.
