I have a question.

Is there any way to sync my Contacts on my Thunderbolt to my Gmail account?

I have added some ppl to my contacts since I got the phone and would like to add them to my Gmail contacts on my pc.. I can not seem to find much info on this. would it just be easier to save them all to my sd card and import them that way?

Thanks!

If in Accounts > Google > Contacts is checked, I'm pretty sure they're automatically synced (saved).

you would think that but i just looked and since iv had the bolt since day one none of the new contacts have been added. the old ones have been updated though.

Never mind guys!

I just made a group on my bolt called "Android Contacts" with all my phones contacts and it synced the new group to my gmail account.

:)

EDIT: wait.. it only synced the contacts in my gmail account into the new group..... back to square one... any advice?

:(

You have to make sure the new contacts created on the phone are Google Contacts. People will create two kinds of contacts "Phone" and "Google". Only contacts created as Google Contacts will sync. Once a contact is created there is no way to change the type. Look at the top right hand corner of the new contacts you created on the TB and see if it says Google or Phone

Someone chime in if I'm wrong here... but could you do this: Export all contacts to SD, delete all contacts on phone, Import all contacts as Gmail contacts (this will create dupes on Gmail when you sync) then use Gmail's Find Dupe & Merge Contacts feature on your PC to eliminate any dupes. ??

Absolutely right. For some reason the numbers get imported into Google with a "+1" before the number e.g. +15152251234 instead of (515) 225-1234. It's a .CSV so it could be easily "find & replace"ed. Other than that, it worked flawlessly :-) Actually, it gave me a chance to clean up my Google contacts.

dizlmonsta is correct - this is how I "fixed" accidental phone contacts before switching from Incredible to TB.

Go into People, then tap menu -> import/export -> export to SD card -> phone. It will put all contacts saved on your phone into a .vcf file.
Then you just go back to menu -> import/export -> import from SD card and be sure to select Google from the "Create contact under account" popup. It'll automatically find the .vcf on your SD card and voila, you're all set.

Ok so if I am understanding this correctly, I only have a few contacts on my list was creating them manually because I no longer have my iphone4 and didn't know how to do it from itunes, any way what you all are saying is I have to create a contact twice? first under phone then the same contact as google contact? If so where can I go and look to see if the contact is created under google, because I did one as a test and I don't see it on my phone nor do I know where to look. Sorry to be so lost

When I first did this I just opened Gmail on my laptop and looked in My Contacts to make sure everyone was there and to clean up duplicates. You can do it through the People app as well but this was just easier for me. And yeah, for backup reasons I'd suggest always saving a contact under Google rather than Phone. You should be seeing these contacts in the same list as all the others - if not, try opening People and tapping menu -> view and make sure that Google is checked.

As far as signing out of Gmail, do you mean you wanna remove the account from your phone altogether?

Whoops, too slow. Fixing my reply right now.:-[
Ty but what I am saying is how do I see all of my contacts that I just saved to google? do I have to go on comp and check? and also I just added a few new contacts but I don't see them on my phone I still see the old phone contacts that I just transferred am I to delete those? because I notice when I go to add a contact and change it to google a message comes up that states Some contact fields may be lost Are you sure you want to change acct type to google. I am thinking it does this because it is defaulted as Phone.
