Syncing iMessage to my Nexus 7

Soooooooooo I took a step outside the "Apple Garden" and bought a Nexus 7, and couldn't be happier. Jelly Bean is what I wanted Android to be before I switched to iPhone, and I LOVE the device, hardware and all. The one thing I wish I could do is sync my iMessage between my MBP, iPhone, and Nexus. Is there an app that allows this? If not, it's not a "switch to iPad Mini" deal-breaker, but it would be nice.

Either way....this is one of the best devices I've ever used. So glad to be back in the Android community again!! :)

It looks like Apple has not exposed iMessage as a cross-platform API. It's like BlackBerry Messenger for iOS, it works great, but is only available for a specific platform. In fact, if you ever decide to switch from your iPhone it sounds like you'll have to put some extra effort into disabling your iMessage account before shutting off the phone so your iPhone-totin' buddies can still talk to you (unless you specifically turn it off, their iPhones will still think you have iMessage, and won't use SMS to talk to you any more).

If you can get your pals to use SMS, there are plenty of applications that can synchronize SMS across multiple platforms.

VTOK looks to be a a viable option, once it comes out of Beta and is opened up on the 7. I just found it and put it on my EVO LTE and it works great, but it's "not compatible" with the 7 yet, but I would assume it's going to be soon.

VTOK is a Video chat service, right? Like FaceTime, Google Talk, Skype, etc?

iMessage is a BlackBerry Messenger-style SMS clone that uses data to send the SMS and not the SMS service on your cell provider. Basically, on an iPhone, you start typing up an SMS to a phone number and if your recipient is on iMessage it will autoroute the message through Apple's servers instead of sending it as an SMS.

Well I figured they wouldn't allow it to leave the walls of Cupertino, I'm more just looking for some way to use only my nexus at times. Oh well. Maybe someone will figure it out one day. Btw- is anyone having an issue with the notification shade not wanting to stay down when you pull it? Pre-4.1.2 it would come all the way down with a halfway swipe. Post- update I have to pull my finger all the way to the bottom of the screen. Not a big deal, just a noticeable change.
