/system/ Directory Permissions

Hi there,

In the recent weeks I've been upping the ante with regard to my phone's capabilities (rooting, installing custom recovery and now running custom ROM) and in the recent days, I spent quite a bit of time trying out the terminal emulator (I felt that was the next big step). My concern is, after learning to remove some system bloatware through making the system directory read-write, I can't be certain that the system directory has reverted to read-only. Can anyone tell me, does the system directory restore it's original permissions, say, after reboot or do I have to manually make the system partition to read-only? Looking at the permissions via J.Rummy's RootBrowser, the permissions for system are set as rwxr-xr-x. My phone is a Huawei Ascend G300 running CM10.1.

Thanks,

Rob

As far as I know /system/ even with root access has to be allowed read/write permission each time from whatever app or means you are using to access it.

So if your using terminal emulator once you close it up or reboot the device it reverts back to needing you to enter in the command to open read/write access again. Same goes for apps like Root Explorer, Astro, etc.. Yes they have settings to maintain read/write access but its only while those apps are open and in use.

So if that makes sense, I think unless your accessing /system/ level using one of those means your device is okay regardless of what the permissions are showing you because normal Android operation or 3rd party apps are not going to " write " to /system/ level of the device. App updates, etc are all going to take place at a different level of the device filesystem like /data/app/
