when verizon folks did the software update back on 2nd of this month the july security update so to speak when restart your phone and you got few apps on sd card when you look into app drawl find that app that is sd card

does it shows strange symbol like for an example i got facebook app sd card i open app drawl find find facebook it will display facebook name at the bottom

with sd card symbol alien number letters

i know that whenever i restart phone some apps like facebook will display that but few mins later it will display right app symbol on the homepage

but it doesn't when i open up app drawl find facebook still will display odd symbol letters numbers

i know wasn't that bad when i went into oreo last month but i'm its kindof worse started after i did that july security update system23 back on 2nd of this month

i'm pretty sure if i moved facebook app out of sd card and put it phone restart when i go to app drawl it will prob display correct app icon

i have 5 other apps besides facebook app on sd card and i need to keep them on sd card due to storage space

i either have to ignore these issues when i open up app drawl next time i restart phone or uninstall and reinstall them back to get icons show normal until next time i want to restart phone screwed up again

anyways i just want to know if verizon folks notice this when restart phone and you got some apps sd card open app drawl find the apps that is on sd card and see this odd stuff

i hope somebody will at least reply to me today, so that i'm not alone

Storing a huge app on the SD card, realizing that it is split up and also on the internal memory, is asking for problems, especially with the FB app that does who knows what behind the scene.

well its not my phone but this is what does if you click on link

https://androidforums.com/threads/moved-apps-to-sd-apps-icon-greyed-out.1281203/

the person has a galaxy note 8

i also have messenger on sd card so you can see what it does since that person has facebook messenger on sd card

however it seems happening galaxy s9 phones somebody posted yesterday samsung form

https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...esterday-s-Software-Update/td-p/361484/page/3

so it seems have to do to oreo update and possible worst after did july security update on 2nd of this month

Maybe the security update scanned suspicious code in Messanger and or FB and it's working fine.
Not that fb would ever do something underhanded

the sorry part it does the same thing on these 2 apps amc theater app and wwe network because i got both on sd card when i restart phone sorry oreo meh

Sorry, I'm having a little trouble following the details of your post. Are you saying that even though these apps aren't "moved to SD" (in the Settings>Apps menu), they're showing up on the homescreen and App Drawer with greyed-out icons and the SD symbol? That usually means that an app had been moved to SD, and then the SD either became corrupt or was unmounted/removed unexpectedly (thus breaking the symlink between the main portion of the app on Internal Storage and the portion on the SD card).

Uninstall Facebook and Messanger. Clear your cache partition and reboot.
Reinstall FB if you need to, or access through a browser from now on.
Leave the FB apps on your phone, just move media to the SD card.

no they are on sd card like i said when reboot my phone they will do it on homepage the certain apps i got on sd card homepage loads up but afterwards the apps on homepage will display the normal icon

and as soon after that if i go app drawer search for like facebook it will stay and show that icon still gey out with sd symbol

like i said if i remove apps i got sd card put it on phone storage i can tell you what i got sd card wwe app network app facebook facebook messenger flixster app a 3rd party twitter app used amc theater app besides my 3 games

however since my 3 games are in game launcher they are ok doesn't show symbol

so if i move amc theater app from sd card to phone storage restart not only will it not show symbol sd card homepage few mins then come back normal afterwards and when try to search for it app drawer won't show sd card symbol as well

when i was on 7.0 this never happen before when i restart phone and got apps on sd card and when i went into oreo last month restart i did see it 2 or 3 times but when i uninstall and reinstall back put on sd card go app drawer they would eventually be like homescreen show it few mins then go to normal

but ever since i had to do security update july back on aug 2nd system23 after restart 4 or all of them will be like that in app drawer and stay there thus i think there's a bug in security update that making them like that

i have to have some of these apps sd card because they eat up alot of space if leave it phone/internal storage meh

plus you know that when an app on sd card gets update play store like facebook it will go back in the phone/internal storage

other stuff i got pics wallpapers and alot of mp3 some i got as ringtones for phone text and emails besides a mp3 folder play in in google play music btw

Did you notice if after the update your apps went through an optimizing screen ? Log in to the playstore and go to Your Apps and check for updates.
I had this icon problem like you, and solved it by keeping apps on the phone memory, reformatting the card, and then moving only my media to it, which was 90%of the contents to begin with.

yes so do we all agree that this has to do with oreo from last month and the july security update system23 aug 2nd aka a bug

like i said this only happens if you restart phone

and you do think that next security update will fixed this problem and yes the guy was right i didn't mention to it where he talk about the part if I move one of the gray icons TO the home screen, it stays grayed out. <-does same thing

One would hope that Samsung will patch it, but the S7 is over 2 years old now, so there's a good chance Samsung is done with updates for the phone. The best thing I can suggest is to send feedback to Samsung about the problem.
