T-Mobile G2x Review

I've had mine since mid May. The phone has it's share of issues, mine in particular has a fondness for reboots. Other owners have had issues with overheating, bootlooping, miserable battery life (above and beyond what one could expect with a dual core machine), etc.

Many have gone through 2 or more replacements looking for one that at the very least will operate as advertised, many more have resorted to rooting (myself included) and flashing custom roms to solve some of the issues. Support/help from T-Mobile and LG has been sad at best, and a Class Action Lawsuit is in the works for what that's worth. Promises of a Gingerbread update have been almost constant since the device release with the latest rumor being in Q4.

I personally like the phone, and as long as I can keep it functional with either custom roms, or other means (fixing permissions in CWM) I'll keep it. If it gets worse, I'll drop it in an instant and go to something else.

T-Mobile G2x Review. What are your thoughts on this device? Will it be your next smartphone? If you already have it how are you liking it so far?

I just bought the phone yesterday and immediately updated to the official Gingerbread build. I loved the phone with Froyo from the first minute I got it, and now I'm REALLY loving it. So far, I've had no issues aside from a lock screen delay in Gingerbread.

Compared to my n1 its close, more bugs but it is faster,
I really like the camera and the hole HDMI output
The screen is sharper but less responsive at times for no reason at all.
The big downfall for me was no AMONRA recovery,( don't like cwm)
And having to screw around on the computer just to flash recovery sucked big time, terminal is so much easier.

Over all though faster and brighter then all my friends iPhones put together and that alone is 5 stars in my book

And on a really good note in a couple months icecream sandwich! !!

I am really digging it....being my first Android device. I think GB really made this a much better device than when I first got it in late june. There are still some bugs that need attention, but they are certainly not a deal breaker. I never had the major issues like the random reboots as other have had so I can't say if the GB update squashed those issues or not. My only letdown is the battery life, but that might just be because I came from a BB and was used to not having to plug the phone for over tow days at a time as oposed to ever night if I want a functioning phone the next morn. But again....not a deal breaker.

I too came from BB world.......

I miss the turn off the phone and the alarm still come on ability(however another forum member pointed out, now I have a good alarm clock)
Battery life was super for me. 2-4 days with no charges.......
Swype is ok, just teaching it the right words is tough
I was very used to the email and SMS/MMS format of BB, still tough figuring out how to BCC a bunch of people on large texts.......I prefer to say it on Text than over publish info on Facebook.

LED notification is a let down.

It's been a couple of weeks since the GB update, and I must admit, it's a night and day change for the G2x. No reboots since the update, no overheating even when gaming, recharges quickly, and once the apps are actually closed, battery life is outstanding.

I bought the phone after the Gingerbread update so when my phone came shipped to me, it was already pre-installed. I have had ZERO problems with the phone. I think they finally nailed it once they started shipping these new ones out. I love it. It charges fairly quickly. I'm coming from an iPhone and the G2X is a substantially faster, more customizable, and I just love the interface for droid. I can never go back. The only downside for me is that I miss the physical home button that iPhones have. The lock button on the g2x is kind of deep set, I feel like it could get stuck easily over time so I wish there had been another button on the front of the device or some other method of waking the phone up when it's locked. But honestly, other than that, I'm in love with this phone.

Yeah its missing some features that were on the BB. I missed them the first week, but quickly forgot about them when I saw what this device could do much better than my bb. I kind of regret staying with bb so long and putting up with its shortcomings when there were device out there that was superior in areas I needed.

There is a pretty neat desktop charger for the G2x that makes charging less of a hassle. Also, Tasker helps preserve and prolong battery life with configurable profiles and task automation.

If you use an app called NoLock, like I do, you can wake up the phone by pressing the volume buttons. I'm not sure if that works otherwise, but I hate lockscreens anyway lol. Also, Speck makes a nice case that has really solid plastic button covers, in case your button ever wears out.

Tasker can help you also by making a task to shut off phone automatically during each night (to prevent as many battery pulls later in the day) and an automatic start up time, prior to alarm going off.

I actually prefer stock GB keyboard over swype. Have they improved it much lately? Back when I had my Droid 2, it used to get every other word wrong and was a pain to edit text lol.

I got mine a few days ago. It's a new one and it came with Gingerbread 2.3.3. So far I've experienced excellent battery life, quick charging, no overheating, and no random reboots. One issue that I do have, and that I've seen others complain about, is some screen bleed. I have mine in both the top and bottom right corners. I'm not sure yet if it's annoying enough for me to return the phone but I have a couple more weeks to decide.

Other than the screen bleed this phone is perfect. It's fast, the screen is bright and vivid, the camera is better than what I expected after reading some other reviews, and I love the size, weight and solid feel of the phone. I'll post again if I find any other issues.
