AC Question

Like the title hints, I would like to disable that account verification mechanism, since I think that is what limits me to 0.5 mbps, without installing a custom rom since I will lose WIFI calling if I do that, Cyanogenmod has no WIFI calling.

I installed Clockwork USB tether and the speed is unregulated 50+ mbps. But I want the WIFI hotspot. I tried creating a new APN profile several times and setting the APN Type to default, supl, mms, dun and restarting, it did nothing. I changed the TTL value on my laptop to 65 and that did nothing.

I keep thinking if I can root the phone and remove the verification crap or remove the T-Mobile built in apps then I can get the WIFI hotspot to unlock it's full speed and I can keep WIFI calling (which is not essential for me but nice to have when there is no signal).

It might be built deep into the T-Mobile ROM somewhere. I wonder if I can even get full speed by installing Cyanogenmod, I installed CM Marshmallow on this phone before, but switched back to T-Mobile ROM to get the WIFI calling and upgraded to Marshmallow even though phone came used from Ebay with T-Mobile KitKat, I didn't think to test the hotspot, wish I would have tried out the hotspot while I had CM.

Just want some input before I reflash with Cyanogenmod.

Any help? Thanks.

re:

What it's "built into" is TMobile's policy of charging you for a tethering account - and without paying for it, you can't use a hotspot (which is what 'tethering' means). They verify that you're paying for tethering, and if you're not, you get very slow data.

Either forget about tethering or see TMobile and pay for the addition of tethering to your account. Nothing you do on the phone is going to change what TMobile's server does when your phone tries to send it a packet that's not originating in the phone (with a hotspot, it's originating in the device that's tethered to the phone).

re:

I've only used 9GB in 15 days between the laptop and phone, what difference does it make if I used the data on my phone or my more comfortable laptop with big screen and keyboard and draggable windows?

re:

1. This isn't TMobile, this is a forum with users just like you. We can't close accounts.

2. It doesn't matter whether you want to download 1 byte or hundreds of GB - it's TMobile's decision to charge you for tethering.

3. If you don't like the answers to your questions (and they're the same answers, whether you get them here or you get them from TMobile), take it up with TMobile - we just tell you what the facts are, we don't tell you that you have to agree with them.
