Have the Samsung Galaxy Tablet 10.1 (2014), 2+ years old. Just earlier today, starting acting funny. The screen comes on, can sign in and do things, but as soon as 10 mins comes around and it dims and auto locks, when I press the home button it won't light back up to let me sign back in as usual. I can hear sounds and can tell it is on, but nothing. Have to hold the power button down to reboot. disabled the lock screen and pw and such, but no way to disable the 10 min time out and it dims and won't let me in.

I blew it away and reloaded it and still the issue persists. I removed the back and checked all the connections and everything is solid, no problems that I can see.

Help anyone? TIA!!

Welcome to Android Central! Try booting into Safe Mode, which temporarily disables all 3rd party apps. https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-14280

If the problem disappears in Safe Mode, then something you installed is causing the problem. You may have to uninstall apps one by one until the problem disappears. If the problem persists in Safe Mode, then it's more likely to be a hardware or firmware problem.

Thanks, but here is an update. I took the back cover off as I mentioned, checked all the connections and all seemed fine. Then powered it back on and now it works, it can auto dim, but pressing the home screen button or power button and it lights back up. But now a new issue.

It won't respond to my touch!!! It only responds to the S-pen!!! FML!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any thoughts? Already factory reinstalled and no 3rd party apps at all!

I would suspect that some screen connection (for the digitizer) got loose or disrupted when you opened the tablet up. You may have to open it up again and recheck the connections. If it still persists, then the connection might have actually been damaged. The S Pen works separately from the digitizer, so that's why it still works.
