I currently have a iPad Gen 1 that I used during my first degree. I will be starting my next degree in a few weeks, and I am looking for something a little better than the iPad Gen 1. I type all my papers on my desktop, and use my tablet for to look-up things when doing research, and I also use it for the basics such as the internet, and email, Facebook, ect. I am not worried about reading textbooks on this device (but I would not mind it either), I am just sick of the iPad Gen 1 dragging sometimes when I have a few tabs open at once.

My budget is around $500 or less (I would like it to be less, but if I like the tablet I will spend more). I would prefer a tablet with the Gorilla Glass; I also like the 10 inch tablets, but would consider a smaller one. I am very very new to Android, and what little I have used Android, I have realized that it is what Apple iOS should have been.

Thanks for your help!

Well I am kind of partial to ASUS and think the transformer is the tablet out right now for total functionality thanks to the dock. If you want a tablet that can surf, play games, do research, erad, etc, it dos it very well. If you need productivity and extra battery power, you got the dock. it is a 10" tablet, has gorilla glass and is priced aroud what you are looking for. You can find the newest flagship TF700 for $500, the Prime TF201 for around the same or the TF300 (budget Prime) for $400. You can also find then used for less. But if I had to choose, that would be my choice and recommendation.

You have three options as i see it.

If you love the iOS ecosystem them the new iPad with retina display is probably your best option.

If you want an android you have two options. If you want a bigger screen device with a superb keyboard attachment. The ASUS Transformer Pad of Infinity are the go to big Android tablets

If you want something smaller then the Nexus 7 is the ONLY choice. Jelly Bean makes Android as smooth as iOS. It has a good display and comes with a $25 Google Play credit for some apps to help you get started. Any bluetooth keyboard that works for the iPad works for Android if that is a concern
