Tablet for light use?

I'm looking to buy a tablet for an old guy who'll only be using it while traveling for e-mail, skype, etc.

He's currently using my old Onda V712 (which was my backup tablet), which is good enough for his needs, but its battery life sucks (perhaps a result of the custom firmware). (The specs of the V712 are 7", 1280x800 display, 16GB flash, 2GB RAM -- or so they say, seems like 1.5GB, quad core Cortex A7).

If I want to buy an equivalent (more or less) tablet from a known firm, what would you suggest?

I would recommend the Andteck TouchTab 10.1 inch. I have it myself and it does what I need it to do. On mine I have crashing issues with certain apps and I looked at the reviews its a very rare problem with it.
