Taming friendstream/facebook

Ok, so to start out, I'm not a big user of social networking but I do have a Facebook account. I post on it maybe twice a month and only check my news feed now and then.

So I've never set up my account on my EVO. Well this evening I took a pic of the kids and wanted to get it onto my facebook page. So I went and added the account to friendstream so now I can chose to upload a photo via HTC facebook.

So when I did that I cringed at first thinking my calendar and contacts would get taken over and now all kinds of updates in the background would start happening. Now for how I use facebook, if it gets too intrusive I'd just as much delete the facebook account off the phone.

I was pleasantly surprised to find in my contacts it only linked facebook accounts with people I already had in my gmail contacts. OK, that isnt so bad other than I noticed that if I already had a pic for a contact I want to use, the facebook pic seems to override it if the accounts are linked, is there a way to override that?

It also added a facebook calendar which I don't need. I didn't see a way to remove the calendar but I did find you can just uncheck the calendar so it won't display. I suppose I can live with that. Is that my only option?

Now the friendstream app itself. I really don't want it running in the background for as much as I use it. I'd rather have it so when I decide I want to open it and look at the newsfeeds it updates at that time. So I go into settings and for "facebook for HTC sense" there are "sync live feeds" and "sync contacts". If I uncheck both of those will nothing sync unless I open friendstream and manually chose "refresh" to update?

That is true. I also have mine set to only sync when I manually do so.

To change the photo from the Facebook photo to the Gmail photo you need open the contact, then click menu, select Link, then hit menu, then select "select contact photo". You can now choose which picture you want to associate with said contact.

Regarding the calendar, yes that is the only option. You can only control whether the Live Feed & Contacts are synced via the settings > accounts and sync menu.

Oh, one last thing. In the people (contacts) app... is there a way to turn off the status it shows next to some of the contacts that it has pulled from Facebook?

What's the default file size of the contacts for google?
All the contact pictures I put on the google site get blocky and terribad when I display them on the EVO (unless they're linked from facebook).

Nevermind, figured out the problem.
Google contacts are limited to 96x96, and the size displayed on the EVO is something else, so it pixilates the image and makes it look like trash. Guess I'll have to go a different route for contact photos

I know this is an old thread, but is there a way to limit who shows up in FriendStream without unfriending them?

I inadvertently let it out to my mother that I was on Facebook so I had to add her as a friend. Problem is, is that she posts on this dumb blog about baby owls and it uses Facebook and Twitter to do it. So now I see all these crazy comments about owls in FriendStream. Plus one of my work contacts posts stuff that I don't want to sort through all the time.
