Tempered glass screen protector woes

Ok guys this is bizarre. I for the life of me cannot figure out why I cannot get any glass screen protectors to stick for more than a few days. After a few days the adhesive fails at the top of the phone near the earpiece. I have tried 4 different companies now and all do the same thing.

Am I about to be liberated and just go protector free? I really rather not but I can't stand this.

I know it's not ideal but what about a 360 glass case protector that protect front and back depends if you like them cases.

Also, try applying a little oil - vegetable, not mineral - to that area. The oil will be drawn in, be unnoticeable, and will eventually dry. I’ve used this method myself on another phone with complete success.

Just go with no screen protector. I've had numerous phones and the only one I put a screen protector on was my 2XL. Worked fine except for the itty-bitty corner flap that wouldn't stay adhered to the screen. Drove me nuts. Since the screen protector kit came with two protectors I put the spare one on and it was great for about three months, then the same corner lifted off and I had the same irritating problem.

Meanwhile, my wife and my son, who aren't as careful handling their phones as I am, also have 2XL's (son just got a Pixel 6), never used screen protectors and haven't a scratch on their screens. I didn't have a scratch on any of my previous phones. Gorilla Glass really is wonderful stuff.

I decided not to go with a screen protector on my 5a.

Go NAKED!

Very interesting and cool! I've never heard of this but will definitely give it a try thanks!

Man it's so tempting....... Did you use any of the liquid screen protector stuff or is that all a gimmick??

Thanks for all of your help guys truly appreciate it!

I'm not sure what you mean by the "liquid screen protector stuff".

I put an IQ LiquiShield screen protector on my 2XL. To install you sprayed the supplied liquid onto the phone's screen and the back of the screen protector then laid the protector down, positioned it until it was aligned and then used a soft rubber squeegy wedge device to flatten any bubbles and make the protector adhere to the screen.

One thing I liked about it was it could "self heal" with the use of a blow-dry gun. I got superficial scratches in the plastic screen protector but if applying a slight amount of heat with a blow-dry gun would make the scratches would disappear.

I wish I had known about the vegetable oil trick. I did use a small drop of water underneath the corner that lifted up on my screen protector, then press the protector into place. Yes, it fixed it for about a week, then it would peel up again. I'd put another drop under there, press into place and it would stick for about another week. Used to drive me crazy.

I can see where vegetable oil might hold a peeling screen protector better than water, but I'd worry about it yellowing in that spot or peeling up again.

There's nano particle liquid screen protector products that sound a bit gimmicky but get great reviews on Amazon

Just looked at them. Product claims it will put a microscopically thin film of "tempered glass" that will "fill in the microscopic gaps, valleys, and ridges" in a devices glass surface and "increases the glass' strength to 9 H hardness level."

Yeah, that sure sounds gimmicky to me.

The Pixel 5a uses Gorilla Glass 3, which has a hardness of 6.7 H. I seriously doubt these nano particle products have a hardness of 9H, which is equivalent to the hardness of sapphire (diamonds are 10H; talc is 1H.)

I doubt there is anything that you will commonly encounter that will cause you to inadvertently scratch Gorilla Glass 3.

The thing about the positive reviews is that they will say my screen didn't get scratched. What else can they say? Well, I've never had a scratched screen since I started buying phones with Gorilla Glass on them.

Great point thanks!
