okay, so we all know that this is a phone that is not aimed at 90% of the members in this community, but what are some specific questions and problems you can foresee with this type of setup? I mean, it sounds good on paper, but can you see this phone working? i would love the business model to work, but we all know some things need to be different. what would those thing be?

or can this thing actually work?

i'll start...

the pictures the website produced are terrible. i wonder what gcam pictures would look like taken with this sensor...

For me, regular and reliable updates are important. They claim they'll update the phone every 3 months and provide major Android version upgrades for 3 years -- I'd want to see if they keep those promises. Also, is this Android One, or is it a heavy skin?

the website says stock android.

if that's the case, and it can get a decent gcam port, would it be viable? i mean, it beats Google's 2 year commitment to pixel devices, yeah?

One thing I notice is there not much border protection for corner drops... and the screen is almost right there.

While on the surface, this is a very consumer friendly phone. So much that my inner Dr. House is coming out for some fresh air. I'm inclined to agree with @B. Diddy that I am interested in seeing the multiple year software updates.

Right, but what does that mean? Is it pure AOSP? Is it Android One (which in my mind is what "stock Android" means these days, given that it requires the manufacturer to push out monthly updates)? Is it just a lightly-skinned Android interface, like Moto's? I couldn't find any specifics in the reviews I read -- they just say it's a "clean" version of Android.

All that being said, I would still say it's a commendable project.

$39 for replacements though. that's cheaper that a whitestone and/or some cases. i'd rock that thing no case and have zero fears.

it also makes a strong case in ending in "how to properly charge your phone" debate for using it without babying it when a battery replacement costs that much.

"project" being the operative word. year 1 of 4. you can't replace phones if your company folds.

That is another part that makes me skittish. I know, people said the same thing about One Plus (I'm not going to get started on them), but how many other starter OEMs were out there at the same time? Say 6 or 7?

I really do applaud them for the warranty. If they can pull even a minor profit, and keep in business, I think they have a solid thing going here. But the key is, like you said, they have to stay in business for another 3 years to see what really happens.

As I was typing this, and I will admit, I only skimmed the provided link, but what happens when the battery dies? Is that covered under warranty?
