Tethering 4g or 3g question

I seem to be in a a spotty 4g zone so I can not verify myself.....( I have to move around to test)

If we use the built in hotspot on gingerbread with 4g on does it actually let us tether to 4g speeds or does it downplay it all to 3g. (I've read conflicting posts through out the web).

Am I right to assume that wireless tether for root users will let us tether while using 4g speeds?

If the built in one can support 4g I won't bother with wireless tether for root users even though I am rooted since it would just be of no use. I am already using the built in one in a pinch to tether 3g and it works flawlessly, a bit slow but thats understandable.

Thanks for any and all input.

The first post in this thread seems to indicate that the stock hotspot only works with 3G. I do not have 4G service so I cannot verify.

4G doesn't work with built in hotspot. I tried to enable it and it was constantly connecting and disconnecting. 4G works fine with wifi tether app. I didn't do side by side comparison of speeds but when i was streaming the game built in hotspot caused buffering every 5-10 seconds. Using 4g and wifi tether it was streaming without buffering the entire game.

Does USB tethering support 4G?
