This is a question concerning Virgin Mobile itself. Is there a penalty for tethering your phone to get yourself internet on your PC? Either by USB tethering or Wifi Hotspot tethering. Not trying to get my service terminated.

It's $15/month if you want to pay for it, but if you are rooted you can bypass the fee... just don't go crazy otherwise they'll catch on and put the kibosh on your operation.

Yea I'm rooted and all, I was about to do it then I thought about it.

Basically, (for most of the users) if you aren't tethering like downloading gigs and gigs of data, they shouldn't bother you. But like he said, it's their tos and they can do what they want. I only use it for emergencies (like a blackout).

This.

You know what they say, all toasters toast toast.

Since the evo uses 4g I would imagine the wifi hotspot would use 4g as well, am i right? So is the tethering fast enough to stream such things as Netflix?

I have the optimus now and it's only 3g so movies and shows buffer quite a bit while tethering.

I'm guessing it would depend on your signal, where my desktop is at I don't get quite as much and my 4g doesn't activate there so I can't really say. But the 3g speeds are pretty decent, but its far better then paying for the physical mobile hotspot lol.

Ok. I don't know what to do now because I only get one bar at my house and one bar at my parents and that's the places where I'm the most. One Web page takes about 1-2 min. to load. Driving in between the houses through deserted fields I get full bars and it just pisses me off. I'm wondering if tmobile has better coverage and I heard they have free tethering.
